How you wish your little garden would stay as pretty as it was if only you could prevent your cat from trampling on your precious petunias! First step is to secure your fence right away. The spaces in your fences gives your cats the opportunity to enter it. Since cats are nimble and flexible, you know that they can leap over fences. Therefore, it is sensible to put a taut wire on the fence to prevent them from jumping over.
In case your cat gets into your garden, making it move out may be difficult. However, there are ways to get it out of there. Since you are a cat owner, you must know that cats dislike dogs. Some breeds of dogs that are effective are Dobermans and Pit Bull.
Train your kitty how to walk with a cat leash.
Another way to scare cats is to squirt water on them. A water hose and a pail of water are the most basic things you need for this method. If the cat refuses to move out with one squirt, repeat the process until it takes the hint. Sprinklers can also be used as an option. Go to your local hardware store and look for a motion activated sprinkler. A motion activated sprinkler can sense immediately movement and will sprinkle some water where it sensed movement. It will shoo away your cat from your lawn by shooting water at it. The garden will then be cat-free because it will realize that the garden is not its place to stay.
The helpless plants in your garden also need defence from your cat. Sometime, cats stay under bushes and make these bushes their litter box. To guard your plants, try putting moth balls around the area where there are plants. The scent of the moth balls can drive your cat away from the bushes. Stuff with strong odor such as moth balls, cayenne, citronella, lavender, and lemon grass are irritating for cats. Another repulsive odor for cats is tobacco.

You can also use ultrasonic devices to ward off cats. The high frequency sounds coming out of these devices, which cannot be perceived by people, are annoying for cats. This kind of cat repellent has an assortment of different kinds such as the cordless type, the one with infrared motion sensor and the like. The size of your garden matters when choosing an ultrasonic device to emply. Some ultrasonic devices can cover only up to 300 square feet while others can cover up to 5000 square feet.
Commercial repellents are also used to stop cats from going into the garden. Cats dislike the odor of these commercial repellents. Other animals can also be ward off by commercial repellents. Commercial repellents do contain chemicals, so be cautiousin using them because some of these chemicals can be dangerous to health. Stop using this method if your garden contains mainly of vegetable crops.
Fences, water, sprinklers, dogs, ultrasonic devices and commercial repellents are just a few things that can help you in preventing your cat from destroying your garden. If you value your garden, stop your cats from destroying it. Show your kitty who is the boss.
